Birth and death rates

Births and deaths per 1,000 people, same scale. When deaths cross births, natural increase turns negative.

Poland’s Birth rate fell below Death rate in the 2010s — the gap is natural change before Net migration. Ageing lifts deaths even as Life expectancy at birth rises.

Birth rate

Live births per 1,000 people. Not [fertility] — one year, one rate.

The file

Live births per 1,000 people in a given year. Annual from 1960; same geos as Fertility.

The indicator

SP.DYN.CBRT.IN is a flow rate, not children per woman. Rising Fertility and falling population can still mean a lower birth rate.

What the numbers show

Poland fell from ~16 to ~8 per 1,000; Germany and the US are lower still. Read with Fertility, Births (GUS) and Maternal mortality.

Death rate

Deaths per 1,000 people. Poland rose with ageing, then fell — not the same as [life-expectancy].

The file

Deaths per 1,000 people in a given year. Annual from 1960; complements Birth rate on the same scale.

The indicator

SP.DYN.CDRT.IN rises when the population ages even if lives grow longer — compare Life expectancy at birth, not confuse them.

What the numbers show

Poland climbed above 10 as society aged, then eased. Pair with Birth rate, Deaths (GUS) and Population growth.
