A pair of series

Fertility and population

How many children, how many of us. Stock and flow in two files.

Poland already has Fertility far below 2.1, while Population has not dropped as hard — cohort lag, plus Net migration.

Open both in a slice

Fertility

Children per woman. Poland 1.14 — below replacement, like DE and the US.

The file

Total fertility rate, children per woman, annual from 1960.

The indicator

SP.DYN.TFRT.IN is a hypothetical lifetime average, not births this year. For the stock you still need Population.

What the numbers show

Replacement is about 2.1. Poland fell from ~3.0 to 1.14; Germany 1.36; US 1.63; world 2.19. That is the main future drag, before Net migration.

Population

Headcount since 1960. World 3→8bn; Poland no longer grows on births alone.

The file

One long file: year × country × headcount. This copy has Poland, Germany, the United States, and the world from 1960. Source and licence sit on the same JSON.

The indicator

SP.POP.TOTL is a mid-year stock, not a growth rate. For pace open Population growth; for family and cities see Fertility and Urban population.

What the numbers show

The world went from ~3.0bn to ~8.2bn. Poland 29.6m → 36.4m, but the stock is no longer rising on births alone. The US still grows (181m → 342m). Read with Net migration.
